As a working mama, I try to divide my week into three categories: office work days, creative work days, and mom days. Of course, all days are mom days, but all-out mom days are when I take no calls and stay off email almost completely, so I can focus on the kids. During my office work days, I really grind on email and take back-to-back calls. My creative work days are dedicated to shooting content for Dae or my influencer work—dreaming up new ideas, searching for inspiration, and so on. I’ve discovered I have to separate office and creative work days, because scheduled calls don’t allow me to get fully lost in my creativity. Realizing this about myself and separating the two has been a game changer.
My weekly schedule almost always looks like this:
Monday: Busy office work day—I typically work from 9am-5pm.
Tuesday: Creative work day—It entails no set hours, just shooting photography and brainstorming until the kids are off school at 3pm.
Wednesday: Office work day—I’m not usually as busy on Wednesday as I am on Mondays, so I like to finish by the time the kids are home.
Thursday: Creative work day or mom day—It depends on the week, but I tend to be on emails throughout the day.
Friday: Mom day—This means no calls, no computer, just kids!
The thing about owning your own company is that you dream, sleep, and eat it. Even when I’m not working, I’m thinking of things I can do for Dae. I love it to the point that it feels more like a hobby instead of a job, so I often end up working on it at night. One of my favorite things to do after getting the kids to sleep is lighting our Signature Citrus Candle, cozying up in bed, and working on the brand. It’s always a 10/10 night for me!
Before I hit 34 weeks in pregnancy, my daily routine was a lot more efficient. I would wake up at 5:30am to workout, read, and more—all before the kids woke up. *Sigh* I miss it. But this late in my pregnancy, I’m up multiple times per night. (If you know, you know.)
So here is my current office work day routine:
7am: Wake up, feed the kids, brush their hair (the Vegan Detangle + Style Brush is so gentle), and send them off to school.
8am: Work out with my youngest, Frankie who is three years old. It gets the job done, but it isn’t the most effective, which is why I can’t wait to get back to my old routine.
8:45am: Shower with Signature Shampoo and Signature Conditioner and let my hair air dry, thanks to frizz-fighting Cactus Fruit 3-In-1 Styling Cream.
9am-2:40pm: Lots and lots of calls and lots and lots of emails. David and I tend to take turns bringing Frankie to preschool, dance, or gymnastics, because we both love to watch her. I’m usually able to multitask with work while she's in class, which is so nice.
2:40pm: Time to get the kids’ snacks ready. You’ve probably noticed that fun after-school snacks are a hobby of mine, and conveniently, I can make them while I’m on calls!
3pm: By now, the kids are home, so we snack, chat, and do homework.
3-5pm: The kids have various activities throughout the week, like gymnastics, soccer, and swim lessons, so either my husband or I will drive whoever needs to go, while the other stays home to play with the others.
5pm: We cook and eat dinner. About six days out of the week, we go in the hot tub or pool afterward!
7pm: The kids get ready for bed, and we tuck them in.
7:30-10pm: I like to watch shows with David, catch up on work, doodle in my notebook, and clean up.
10-11pm: This is when I usually go to bed. However, if my restless legs are bothering me, sometimes I don’t fall asleep until 1am—which isn’t ideal!
I really love hearing about how other moms plan their schedules, so feel free to share any tips or tricks in the comments!
