How to properly look after your scalp

Because most of us have a head of hair disguising the status of our scalp, we’re not always aware of how things are going beneath the surface. Keep tabs on your scalp by looking for flare-ups and symptoms including:

  • Dandruff
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Bumps
  • Oiliness
  • Sun damage

When it comes to the scalp, there’s a large window of opportunity for irritation due to over 100,000 follicles producing hair and sebum each day. To keep your scalp healthy and happy, it’s important to create a consistent hair care routine. Try these four steps—when it comes to the scalp, simple is always best.

Exfoliate

Every ten or so washes, grab the Desert Detox Scalp Scrubber and a lathering of Dae Signature Shampoo. Use gentle circular motions on the whole surface of your scalp to stimulate the follicles. Too much exfoliating can irritate your skin and cause an overproduction of oil, but doing it occasionally can:

  • Prevent products from building up
  • Keeps follicles from clogging
  • Helps with dandruff and reduces the itchiness and flakes that follow
  • Keeps oil under control
  • Prevents a buildup of sebum
  • Encourages hair growth

Wash less

Shampoo is designed to clean your hair—it strips your strands of residue, dirt, and leftover products with every wash. When you shampoo too much, it can strip your hair of its natural oils, too. In return, your scalp will produce oil in excess to rehydrate, causing your hair to get greasier faster. Try to use shampoo 3-4 times per week max.

Pick superior products

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, do your research. Anything with sulfates or unnatural fragrances can strip your hair of its natural oils and moisture, which can make your texture frizzy, dry, and itchy.

Dae Signature Shampoo & Conditioner

With no synthetic colors, sulfates, parabens, or phthalates, this Dae duo is designed to hydrate and strengthen hair and remove buildup without stripping it of its natural oils.

Monsoon Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

Two more sulfate-free superstars, these new products are made with a botanical blend of moisture. Ditch dull, dry hair for a glossy shine that’s smooth to the touch.

Brush

Brushing your hair frequently helps to disperse oils evenly while giving the scalp a massage to stimulate hair growth. Keeping your hair detangled can also help with breakage and prevent damage. Try our 2-in-1 Vegan Detangle + Style Brush that can be used on all hair types, wet or dry.
